South Florida PBS engaged Dena Rigby as the art advisor for the new Cornelia T. Bailey Cultural Arts Center at their flagship station, WXEL in Boynton Beach, Florida. The vision for the Cornelia T. Bailey Cultural Arts Center is to provide in-person, award-winning, lifelong-learning, entertainment, and engagement for all ages. Artwork acquired was project managed by Rigby, and chosen to continue PBS’ mission of inspiring youth and adults, with experiences mapped to PBS’ programming. Artists were considered in Florida and nationally for a monumental sculpture commission to welcome visitors to the center. Patti Warashina, a celebrated ceramic artist and Fellow of the American Craft Council, was chosen for the entry commission due to the whimsical levity of her musical sculpture, “Harmony.” Karen LaMonte’s child-sized bronze kimono was acquired to grace the courtyard’s fountain. Preston Singletary’s (Tlingit) cast crystal totem was included to connect and inspire local children to the adventures in the PBS KIDS series, “Molly from Denali.”
