St. Michael Medical Center

NBBJ Architects engaged Rigby as the art advisor for the new St. Michael Medical Center, part of the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health system, on the Kitsap Peninsula. At over 500,000 SF, the nine-story hospital was designed to use 50 percent less energy than other hospitals in the region.

The NBBJ design moved the visual focus to the outdoors, highlighting the stunning views of Dye’s Inlet and the Olympic Mountain range. Rigby worked with the architects and art committee to oversee the acquisition and placement of all artwork to augment the expansive light-filled design so that visitors, staff, and patient have a sense of engagement with the majestic topography.
